Well it is nearly here! The 2012 Summerlicious Toronto! A two-week culinary event that takes the city by storm and this year it falls on July 6th-22nd. Summerlicious in Toronto is turning 10 this year and as part of the decade anniversary, Shallots and Chalets is also going to join in on the fun!
- Toronto’s favourite summer foodie celebration offering up three-course prix fixe menus at more than 180 of Toronto’s finest culinary experiences.
Having just arrived in Toronto from Taiwan about a month prior, we kinda hit the ground crawling and weren’t able to book a reservation at our top restaurants. That said, we did get a great restaurant and totally enjoyed the meal!
In 2011, we were able to get a nice outdoor table at one of the many amazing Oliver & Bonacini establishments, called Luma!
First off, Mrs. Shallots enjoyed CUCUMBER GAZPACHO (below) with citrus marinated scallops, radish and preserved lemon yogurt!
What did Mr. Chalet get into? Oh boy! I had the BRAISED CHICKEN + FOIE GRAS PÂTÉ verjus jelly and pickles!
We’re Mr. and Mrs., and they do say, opposites attract, but in some cases we do love the same things! When eating from Prix Fix menus sometimes even though you want to try as much as you can, you just want a delish meal! We did get the same main and both decided to get into ROASTED PORK LOIN on a bed of quinoa salad with dried fruits, toasted nuts and blackcurrant vinaigrette!
Dessert may be one of Mrs. Shallots favourite meals…..always. If there is Crème brûlée on the menu, she may just skip the first couple of courses and chip away at that sugary coating! Unfortunately, the Mrs. didn’t get it this time around, but we did dig into a LIME + BUTTERMILK PANNA COTTA with seasonal strawberries and rhubarb!
Presentation was bang on and on a hot evening, this is a perfectly refreshing item!
Well this review was thrown together kinda quick, but it is just a pre-2012 Summerlicious blog to get the juices going! So what’s up for this year? We are going to Prime at the wonderful Windsor Arms Hotel and Earth in the posh Rosedale! Stay tuned for some pics of these spots!
